TreeBuds is a tree germination kit concept that aims to endear and engage potential customers by personifying each tree into a quirky, expressive character, with their own distinct personalities and fun facts. Trees should be seen as more than just decoration or gardening projects, but rather as life-long companions, similarly to pets, and a gift and investment that lasts generations. By creating a stronger interconnection between the customer and the tree their are purchasing, TreeBuds simultaneously captivated potential customers and encourages them to be mindful throughout the tree growing process and its life. The bold, funky colors and modern retro aesthetic enhances the playful, fun nature of the concept and will catch your eye from across the store. Taking inspiration from 1920s rubberhose animation, 1970s groovy aesthetics and 1950s checkered diner patterns, the design calls upon the nostalgia of adults as well as children and those generations in-between. The design system differentiates trees by different categories of "Friends" and visually distinguishes them through color variations and individualized character illustrations of each tree.
